Shoppers in Stockport have thrown their support behind national charity, the Child Brain Injury Trust, by voting for their local Asda store to donate funds via a good causes scheme run by the Asda Foundation.

The Asda Stockport Superstore on Warren Street donated £200 to the charity, in recognition of their work with young people and families dealing with a child who has suffered an acquired brain injury. The Child Brain Injury Trust is currently working with 16 families across Stockport and the rest of Greater Manchester.

Emily Honey, fundraising officer, Child Brain Injury Trust, said: “It is really flattering that members of the local community in Stockport have chosen to acknowledge and support the work we have been doing by voting for us as one of their nominated good causes. We are very grateful to the residents for their support, and to Asda for their donation. We look forward to continuing this work in the Stockport area and ensuring that children and families affected by an acquired brain injury get the help they need.”

Gordon Cartwright, partner, JMW Solicitors, acted as the Child Brain Injury Trust’s representative, and collected the cheque in-store, on their behalf. The Manchester-based firm is the charity’s sole legal services provider in the North West and has supported the charity since 2012.

Gordon said: “The backing that members of staff at Asda Stockport and local residents are showing the Child Brain Injury Trust is heartwarming. JMW Solicitors has supported the Child Brain Injury Trust for a number of years because we believe in the importance of their work, both in Greater Manchester and nationally. It was a pleasure to be able to represent the charity and see first-hand the great work Asda’s customers and members of staff are invested in doing which supports this wonderful cause.”

The donation to the Child Brain Injury Trust came as a result of the Community Life programme, ‘Chosen by you…given by us’, which supports charities and local good causes that have been nominated by shoppers. Three charities are chosen in store out of these nominations each month. Customers visiting the store are given a green token after completing their shop, and are able to pick one of three shortlisted charities to support by placing their token in the appropriate box.

Mandy Ogden, community champion, Asda Stockport said: “As a store, we are always delighted to see the result of the ‘Chosen by you…given by us’ scheme, as it gives us a real understanding of what is important to our local community. That our shoppers have voted to support the Child Brain Injury Trust is a clear indication of how important they are to our local community and therefore, how important they are to us. It was a pleasure to be able to donate £200 to the charity in order to help them continue their good work in our area.”
