Today marks the start of our annual road safety campaign, Be Seen, Not Hurt. This Sunday, at 2am, the clocks in the United Kingdom will be put back by one hour. This means that the days will be growing darker and the nights longer. Many of us will soon be travelling to and from work or school in the dark. In the countdown to the clocks going back, we will be working hard to raise further awareness of road and cycle safety to help ensure everyone stays safe this winter.

Did You Know?

Every 30 minutes in the UK a child or young person will acquire a brain injury; 39% of these will be the result of a road traffic collision. An injury can lead to severe physical disabilities. Many children will also experience ‘hidden’ problems that affect their communication and learning skills, their emotions and behaviour.  This can make life very difficult for them, their family and wider support network.

Every child with an injury is affected differently and new problems can emerge at later stages of their growth and development; even if it seemed that there were no problems at first. This life long and life changing condition is hard for families to cope with. This is why the Child Brain Injury Trust exists.  We provide emotional and practical support to help families across the UK affected by childhood acquired brain injury to have full and happy lives.

How Can You Help?

You can join us this Friday and wear your brightest clothes for Glow Day highlighting our road safety message ‘Be Seen, Not Hurt’. You can also share your photos using #CBITGlowDay on Facebook and Twitter and make a donation by texting GLOW23 £3 to 70070 or visiting www.justgiving.com/cbit. It really is that simple; make sure you stay safe this winter.

Our Be Seen, Not Hurt campaign this year is sponsored by independent financial advice firm Nestor. We thank them for making this possible.
