Action for Brain Injury Week runs from 12th – 18th May 2014 and there are lots of great opportunities to take action. Great Manchester Run 10K
Join 40,000 people at the nation’s favourite 10k running event on Sunday 18th May 2014. This run forms part of a great weekend of running in Manchester including the Bupa Junior & Mini Great Manchester Run and the Great City Games Manchester. The vibrant course goes through Manchester city centre and is broadcasted live on BBC television.
This is an event for runners of all abilities with live music from ‘bands on the run’ to keep you motivated every step of the way! We have six spaces for this event, which require a £20 deposit and minimum sponsorship of £250.
Baker Hughes 10K, Aberdeen
Join the largest 10K road race in the North East of Scotland on Sunday 18th May 2014. This event is organised by Sport Aberdeen and includes a variety of family friendly running courses as well; children can even join in on the 2K course (£3 entry fee).
The 10K course is situated in Aberdeen’s beach and harbour area taking in the spectacular views of the North Sea and the iconic Beach Ballroom. Entry fee is set at £20 per runner and you must enter before Sunday 20th April.
Royal Berkshire 10K
A great event for the whole family, located within easy access from Reading and the M4 in Berkshire’s Green Park on Sunday 18th May 2014. There is an opportunity for children to join in with the 3K Mini Marathon course (£6.50 entry fee), or perhaps your team would like to take on the Corporate Challenge.
The course is mainly flat with a mixture of landscaped parkland and country roads open to all runners over the age of 15. Entry fee is set at £20 per runner, with great opportunities afterwards to enjoy the Lakeside Race Village.
Blenheim Fun Run
This year we are partnering with the organisers of the Blenheim 7k Fun Run and Children’s 1 mile Fun Run. On Sunday 18th May we will be closing Action for our Brain Injury Week activities by attending this fabulous family event in the grounds of one of England’s finest country houses.
The run takes a scenic route around the trails and paths of Blenheim Palace, taking you past the Palace and over the Grand Bridge. The junior race, open to under 15s, starts just after the main 7k and makes the event a great family day out.
Entry fee is £13 for adults, or £7 for under 15’s, including access to the Blenheim Palace grounds on the day. To enter and find out more, visit the Blenheim 7K official website, or contact our Community Fundraiser, Andrew Tee.
Silverstone Duathlon, Northamptonshire
A unique opportunity to race in the spiritual home of British Motor Sport; the duathlon takes place on Wednesday 14th May 2014 and boasts the best high speed bike course in the UK. The event is broken down into a 2 mile run followed by a 10 mile cycle, finished off with another two mile run.
You may enter as an individual for £26 or in relay with a runner and a cyclist for £35. This is an evening event with the race starting a 7pm, and a great venue to gather spectators to cheer you on past the finish line.
Devil’s MTB, East Sussex
This bike ride starts at Plumpton Racecourse at the foot of the famous South Downs Hills on Saturday 17th May 2014. It is a great opportunity to experience some off-road trails with awesome descents and, of course, some challenging climbs.
With 32 or 25 miles options and children going free, this is an event suitable for the whole family. The entry fee is set at £30 for either route. Book you place now through the UK Cycling Events, or contact our Fundraising Coordinator with any questions.
Wootton Bassett Triathlon, Wiltshire
On Sunday 18th May, Wootton Bassett will hold its’ first Triathlon organised by Active Sport Events. Set in the historic market town, this relatively flat Triathlon takes you through the scenic surrounding villages.
A great event to enter as a team, or to complete in relay, with entry fees varying from £31 to £50 depending on individual or relay entries. The triathlon consists of a 400m pool swim, 20KM bike ride and a 5KM run.
Monster Race, Oxfordshire
On Saturday 17th May 2014 Cornbury Park in Charlbury, Oxfordshire will be opening up its’ gates for runners to tackle this muddy challenge. This is the ideal setting in the ancient forest of the Cornbury Estate with lakes, farmland, a deer park and of course lots of mud.
Runners have the options of a 5K or 10K course with prices ranging from £37.50 to £55 depending on when you book. To find out more visit the official Monster Race website, or contact our Fundraising Coordinator with any questions.
Mad Monk, Derbyshire
The event is part of the X-Runner Series and is definitely not for the faint of heart. Taking place on Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th May 2014, this is a great opportunity to push yourself to the extreme, and realise your inner child, on this obstacle course. Be prepared for mud, water and lots more mud.
There is the option of a 5K or 10K course with brand new obstacles, including the open water river swim. Entry is £54 per person and sells out fast; to make sure you get a place book now. Please contact our Fundraising Coordinator with any further questions.
Kamikaze, East Sussex
Located in Pippingford Park, East Sussex this event is only 38 miles from central London. On Sunday 18th May 2014 hundreds of crazy runners will come up against hills, bogs, rivers, obstacles and as always lots of mud.
Runners can enter as a team, in relay, or on their own. There is the option to take this course on twice (8 mile route) or opt to go round once (4 mile route). Entry fees start at £25 with team discounts available.
Insane Terrain, Ipswich
On Sunday 18th May 2014, Go Insane at Ipswich is back for the second year and promises to be even bigger, better and, you guessed it, muddier! This Insane Terrain is held in the muddy bogs and swampy streams of Poplar Park.
Runners have the option on the day to complete a 5K or 10K course (10K is two loops of the course). Entry fee starts from £32.50 to £45 depending on how early you book, you may also enter on the day.
Liverpool Central Station Bucket Collection
On Wednesday 14th May, we are looking for volunteers to take action during Action for Brain Injury Week. The collection will be held at Liverpool Central Station between the hours of 7.30am-3.00pm, but we only ask you to donate a couple of hours of your time.
Manchester Piccadilly Station Bucket Collection
Don’t worry, there is an action for everyone. We are looking for volunteers in the Manchester area to help for a couple of hours at our Manchester Piccadilly Station bucket collection.
You will need to be available on Friday 16th May for two hours between 7.30am – 3.00pm.
Family Superhero Walk, Belfast
The Child Brain Injury Trust team in Northern Ireland have organised a great event for the whole family on Saturday 17th May to celebrate Action for Brain Injury Week. This family event is suitable for all ages and is set in the beautiful grounds of Stormont Castle.
A twist on the traditional sponsored walk, we are asking families, friends and colleagues to come along dressed as their favourite superhero. The event is free to enter, but we encourage participants to raise sponsorship for this fun family challenge.

Imagine standing at the edge of an open doorway in an aircraft flying at 10,000 feet! The noise of the engines and the wind ringing in your ears with only the outline of distant fields below… Now imagine leaning forward out of that doorway and letting go – falling forward into the clouds, diving down through the air as you start freefalling at over 120mph!
