On Saturday 2nd June the Northern Ireland team held a new kind of event for families.

“Brilliant event, and it was great to try something new”

We often get enquiries from families about tips and techniques to help with anxiety. Frequently the families we work with experience high levels of stress and anxiety due to the trauma of acquired brain injury. We know it affects the whole family and so this session aimed to help families relax together, and to try yoga for the first time. We also wanted to give people confidence and tools to take home to practice yoga as a family.

“A bit nervous beforehand, but very enjoyable”

So with the help of funding from Cash for Kids we offered families a choice of group sessions or smaller 1:1 sessions with a yoga instructor trained in working with children and young people with additional needs.

After the sessions families could meet each other and have some tasty refreshments before heading home to enjoy a (hopefully) chilled afternoon. Each person got a yoga mat to take home, a scented eye mask to help with relaxation and a few cards showing yoga moves to practice at home as a family.

“Our family has loved this event, and we would certainly come along to more yoga/ family days”

“First time as a family doing any form of exercise and relaxation together, we definitely want to do more”

The team at the Child Brain Injury Trust are always seeking new events that we can offer to families. To ensure you don’t miss out on any events in your area – be sure to follow your local Facebook Group.
