My Role at the Child Brain Injury Trust
I am responsible for the charity’s Legal Support Service (LSS). I manage 25 legal partnerships, involving 19 firms across 14 regions covering England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
What Inspires Me
I was a practising solicitor for many years, specialising in catastrophic personal injury and clinical negligence. Making the leap from being a practising solicitor to joining the charity sector has been the best professional decision I have ever made; I continue to support families that need help the most, but now I do this by supporting our ABI coordinators and securing funding for our vital services, allowing us to be there for every family that needs us, not just those that have a claim for compensation
What I Love to Do (Outside of Work)
Looking after my health is important to me, and I go to the gym most days. Balance is also important, which means I eat cake most days too. My life outside of work pretty much revolves around my 4-year-old cavapoo, Clarence. He is an absolute menace and keeps me on my toes.
Something You Might Not Know About Me
I am in bed by 5 pm most evenings. This is partly because I go to the gym before work every day, but even if I didn’t, I absolutely love my bed!

About Me
Hello! I’m Lauren, and I joined Child Brain Injury Trust in May 2014.
My Role at the Child Brain Injury Trust

What Inspires Me
I love my role at CBIT as it allows me to utilise the knowledge and skills I obtained in the legal and statutory sectors to indirectly support the families using our service through contract management. I also have the privilege of getting to know them more closely through our calendar of Family Events. While the work our Coordinators do is challenging, it is a great joy to see the positive impact their work has on those families.
What I Love to Do (Outside of Work)
I have two teenage sons, so a lot of my time is spent standing on the sidelines (usually in the rain!) at sporting events, but when I do have free time, I love to read, bake and plan family holidays.
Something You Might Not Know About Me
I spent a few years of my childhood living in the USA, so I am a huge fan of US sports, American Football and Baseball in particular. The time difference usually means late nights to watch them, but it’s worth it!

Tracy Parkinson
Lead ABI Coordinator for South West
About Me
Hi, my name is Tracey and I am a lead ABI Coordinator for the Child Brain Injury Trust. I work alongside teams within the Bristol Children’s Hospital and cover the whole South West.
My Role at the Child Brain Injury Trust
I support the whole family during the acute stage of a brain injury, helping to ease challenges and provide support where it’s most needed. With my background in education, I’m passionate about fostering understanding, raising awareness, and showing how early intervention can make a difference.
What Inspires Me
I am inspired every day by the resilience and adaptability of our young people who’s determination and spirit rarely waver. The lack of understanding around brain injury motivates me to highlight and raise awareness around ABI at every opportunity, advocate for those affected and ensure the right support is provided at the right time.
What I Love to Do (Outside of Work)
We spend most weekends (from September to April) stood in the wind and the rain on the side of a muddy pitch watching our boys play rugby or football. When we are not partaking in this (always) eventful activity, then I enjoy taking our dog out for long country walks, time with family and friends and just generally chilling out doing something creative.
Something You Might Not Know About Me
Before I worked in education I worked as a 999 operator for the police service before then becoming a police dispatcher, dispatching officers out to emergencies. Working in the emergency room is very reactive, hence why I wanted to be more proactive and support young people within education.

Mahbubun Khanom
Community Inclusion Coordinator for London
About Me
I joined CBIT in March 2024 with the desire to help families through their ABI journey. My previous role as Early Intervention Manager motivated me to continue to support families with complex needs.
My Role at the Child Brain Injury Trust

I work alongside voluntary and statutory organisations to support families and get immense job satisfaction when I see families smiling.
What Inspires Me
I love making a difference to people’s lives. I acknowledge that people have different starting points in the ABI journey, requiring individualised support to overcome barriers and achieve fairness. I had carried out a systematic review of people’s experiences of exposure therapies/EMDR for treating post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) as part of my postgraduate study, and feel this gives me further insight into trauma from the ABI point of view.
What I Love to Do (Outside of Work)
I enjoy spending time with my family, especially my daughter. I also love socialising with friends and attending cultural events. I enjoy painting, travelling, and writing storybooks (unpublished). I write songs and compose music using my harmonium, which is only appreciated by close family and friends. Not sure if public performance will result in wasted tomatoes 🙂

It is so inspiring to see how the right support from our team can empower the young people and families we support to overcome difficulties in the face of what can be such huge adversity. What Inspires Me
There was absolutely no hesitation in accepting when offered a permanent position after my 12-month contract, as I had experienced in that time how necessary our service is, when many times there is no other support for these children and their families. CBIT makes a huge difference in a myriad of ways for many, and the support for everyone at CBIT from within CBIT is unparalleled anywhere I’ve ever worked.
What I Love to Do (Outside of Work)
At the moment, creating my garden is a huge joy!
