Action for Brain Injury Week

Each year, Action for Brain Injury Week gives us a powerful platform to speak up for families affected by childhood-acquired brain injury, to raise awareness, spark conversations, and shine a light on both the struggles and the strengths that emerge in the aftermath of trauma.

At the Child Brain Injury Trust, this campaign is a cornerstone of our year. It’s a chance to advocate, educate, and celebrate the resilience of the children and families we support. Every story we share helps build a better-informed, more compassionate world.

This year, as always, we are proud to align with Headway UK, uniting our voices around a shared theme to amplify our message nationwide.

Save the date for the next Action for Brain Injury Week (ABI Week), which will take place from the 18th to the 24th of May 2026.

The theme for 2026: "Isolation after Acquired Brain Injury"

This year's campaign shines a light on the often-unseen experience of isolation after childhood acquired brain injury, creating space for young people and families to feel recognised, understood, and connected.

We remind families that they are not alone while celebrating the strength, resilience, and individuality of every child. By amplifying young people’s voices and creating safe opportunities for expression, we hope to build confidence, spark meaningful connections, and foster a stronger sense of community.

Why it matters

Every 15 minutes in the UK, a child or young person acquires a brain injury. That means hundreds of families are suddenly navigating a world of uncertainty: from hospital stays to educational challenges, emotional distress, and long-term rehabilitation.

ABI Week is our opportunity to raise visibility, reduce stigma, and champion the support that turns trauma into hope.

Together with Headway, we’re working to ensure that every voice is heard, whether it’s a young person’s, a parent’s, a teacher’s, or a professional’s.

Light Up for ABI Week! ✨

We reached out to landmarks across the UK to ask if they would light up on Friday, 22nd May 2026 and help us raise awareness of Acquired Brain Injury.
