Specialist UK motor insurer Acorn Group has named the Child Brain Injury Trust (CBIT) as one of its two charities of the year for 2026.
The connection between the two organisations isn’t a stretch. Road traffic incidents are one of the leading causes of childhood acquired brain injury in the UK, and Acorn’s business is built around supporting people involved in exactly those kinds of accidents. When colleagues from Acorn’s Large Loss claims team first put CBIT forward as a potential charity of the year, it struck a chord quickly.
This sits naturally within Acorn’s wider strategy, too. The company has been deliberate about staying close to the communities it serves, something it describes internally as “Staying Small to Grow Big”, and working with CBIT is a practical expression of that commitment. Through its customer-facing brands, Acorn reaches thousands of drivers across the UK every day. That reach gives real potential to put CBIT’s work in front of people who might not otherwise know where to turn.
Throughout 2026, Acorn colleagues will get involved through fundraising, volunteering, and awareness campaigns. The company’s Carrot brand, which uses telematics to encourage safer driving, also complements the Child Brain Injury Trust’s broader prevention work, reducing the number of children affected by brain injury in the first place.
A Charity Football Event To Kick It All Off
The collaboration gets a proper public outing on Sunday, 5 July 2026, with a charity football day at Marine Football Club in Crosby, Merseyside.
More than 100 Acorn colleagues signed up to take part, and the day will feature two 11-a-side matches between Acorn offices, running from around 11 am to 4 pm. Up to 500 tickets will be on sale, with all proceeds going to CBIT.
It’s designed to be a family day out; there’ll be a children’s penalty shootout, face painting, and other activities. Children get in free.
CBIT will be there in person too, sharing information about the charity’s services and connecting with families and supporters from across Merseyside.
Emma Pilling, Corporate Fundraising Manager at the Child Brain Injury Trust, said:
“We are incredibly grateful to be chosen as one of Acorn Group’s charities of the year. Road traffic incidents remain a leading cause of childhood acquired brain injury, so working alongside an organisation that engages with drivers every day gives us a real opportunity to raise awareness, promote safer roads, and make sure families know where to find support.”
Paula Hampson, Head of Claims Contact Centre & Charity Committee Member at Acorn Group, added:
“Our colleagues in the Large Loss team made the case for CBIT, and it wasn’t hard to see why. The work Acorn does every day, helping people affected by road traffic accidents, connects directly with what CBIT does for children and families. We’re proud to be supporting them this year.”
