Hello, I’m Gordon Cartwright and I’m a Partner in the Catastrophic Injury Team at JMW Solicitors, and a very proud Child Brain Injury Trust Special Ambassador.

It’s no secret that Lockdown 2 – the sequel, was a position none of us were hoping we’d be in as we move from Autumn to Winter. As I considered going into it last weekend and with the usual indulgence over Christmas pending, I was concerned about my general level of fitness especially after testing positive for covid-19 back in August. This has prevented me from getting back into the fitness regime I’d built up earlier in the year and I’d need to check in on those I care about, as well as myself. In other words, mentally and physically, I wanted to be prepared! Coupled with this, I wanted to do something to support a charity very close to my heart – the Child Brain Injury Trust.

As a Special Ambassador, I had anticipated that in 2020 I’d be getting to promote the importance of supporting this wonderful cause at numerous fundraising and networking events, and I’m very frustrated that we can’t do that this year in the way I’d usually hope to.

With all of this in mind, I came up with a great solution to get fit, look after my mental health and support the charity I’m so passionate about, and thus the 30 minute fitness lockdown challenge was born!

I’m challenging myself to do 30 minutes of exercise every day from November 5th – December 2nd, the duration of the English Lockdown, and asking my friends and loved ones to sponsor me and help me to raise some much needed funds for the Child Brain Injury Trust.

But there’s more – I’ve also nominated two people to join me on the challenge. I’ve asked them to nominate two people each, and so on, so that we create a wonderful chain of people keeping fit, raising money for the Child Brain Injury Trust and boosting their mental health. As far as I’m concerned, this is a win-win!

If you haven’t been nominated, you can join in the challenge by creating a fundraising page from our JustGiving Campaign page: https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/30MinsFitnessLockdownChallenge

All you need to do is click on the “Start Fundraising” button and JustGiving will help you create a fundraising page that links to the campaign, meaning you can see how much money my challenge has raised so far, and how much you raise in comparison to others. Don’t forget to nominate two other participants and get ready to get fit!

There are so many different things you could do to engage with the challenge; you could walk the dog, go for a run, cycle, do an indoor fitness class, take up yoga or pilates…the list goes on!  I can’t wait to get started and see everyone’s creative approaches to keeping fit and raising money for CBIT in November.

Thanks for taking the time to read my blog, and thank you for supporting the Child Brain Injury Trust!
